The decorating possibilities are endless with these treats. Get creative with frosting, food coloring and candy – no two treats will end up alike!
When my son had his 11th birthday and I wanted to do something really special and different for him. The cake idea was simple enough, I suppose, but it was also over-done so many times. I didn't want to do that, so instead I decided to try a new approach. Using the traditional rice krispie treat recipe, I molded the glob into the shape of a guitar. I used his own guitar as reference. With some icing, food coloring and lots of patience, I created what his friends are still calling to this day: "The most awesome birthday treat EVER!"

1. I once used the Rice Krispies with colored Krispies to make traditional treats for a baby shower. This gave me the idea to do something similar. Since those Krispies were unavailable, I substituted 1 cup of Fruity Pebbles for the recipe to add a splash of color. Less decorating to do, and a hint of flavor. I enjoyed the leftover cup of Krispies as a snack. I have also divided the recipe by 4 then added food coloring to the marshmallows before adding the Krispies, gives a real dyed egg effect ! ( use gloves to protect hands.) Colored Krispies mix would have been a great addition for this recipe, whether added to the box or packaged separately for the holiday. For Christmas I dye a small amount red and green.

2. We had trouble forming the eggs at first until we let the mixture cool more. Then we found success with an ice cream scoop. So first we got a rough shape and when they were even cooler we improved the shape with our buttered hands. They came out great! We put sprinkles on some and dipped some in white chocolate and semisweet. Yummy

3. If you aren't very skilled at shaping or would like the perfect shaped egg, wash and dry a plastic egg and then spray with cooking spray. Press Rice Krispies treat into the bottom half of the egg and then press the top half of the egg on to "mold" the shape. Pull apart and you have a perfect shaped egg. You may have to occasionally reapply the cooking spray if the treats start to stick.

5. I love this recipe! I made them for Easter and it was a huge hit. I divided the marshmallows and added different food colorings to each batch once melted.... really added an extra touch. Then I decorated the eggs with pastel frosting and colored coconut green to look like grass. It was really cute displayed as a centerpiece! They tasted great, especially when some of the coconut stuck to the treat!
